This is a specialised nose heavy dart with a thumb orientation grip at the back. The knurl and deep rings at the front of the dart give the leading finger a secure grip without needing to press on an unsupported nose.

Handmade darts have – against machine-made barrels – the big advantage that the barrel can be produces very thin and with a precise barrel weight.
